Off Leash K9 Training is the most-loved dog training company serving Little River and the northern tip of the Grand Strand.
Little River is where our owner, Joyell Leonard, lives, so this is about as local as dog training gets. Choose private obedience lessons where you handle your own dog, or a sleep-over board and train where your dog stays with one of our trainers. Every program is listed on our plans and pricing page.
Why professional training is essential for Little River dog owners
Behavior modification
Address jumping, pulling, barking, anxiety, and reactivity at the root, not just the symptom.
Safety & control
A dog that listens the first time is a safer dog around traffic, livestock, wildlife, and people.
Stronger bond
Clear communication builds trust, so your dog looks to you for direction instead of guessing.
Skills that transfer
We hand the training over to you at pickup, so the obedience keeps working at home.
Family harmony
A calm, well-mannered dog means a calmer home for kids, guests, and other pets alike.
Our dog training programs for Little River dogs
Board and train with a trainer in their own home, private lessons, and programs built for puppies and reactive dogs. Here is how they break down.
Obedience lessons
Private, one-on-one lessons with a professional trainer. You handle your own dog the whole way, so the training goes home with you.
- Come, sit, place, heel, down, break and off
- Loose-leash walking and manners
- In-home lessons that come to you
Board & train
Your dog stays with one of our trainers in their home, not a kennel, with daily picture and video updates, then a hand-over session with you.
- One-week and two-week sleep-over programs
- Off-leash work in the two-week program
- A two-hour hand-over session at the end
Puppies and problem behavior
A head start for young puppies, and focused help for the problems a general obedience program does not solve on its own.
- Happy Puppy programs from 8 weeks
- Reactivity and aggression lessons
- Therapy dog preparation

Built for how Little River dogs actually live
Little River sits on the Intracoastal Waterway at the top of the Grand Strand, with the waterfront, the boats, and a steady stream of visitors. Dogs here get a lot to look at and a lot to react to.
A calm dog on the waterfront, a dog that stays on its bed when guests arrive, a dog that walks past another dog without a fuss: that is what our training is for. We build it with you, and show you how to keep it going at home.
Just over the line in Calabash or Shallotte? Brunswick County, NC is part of our area too. New puppy? Our Happy Puppy programs start as young as eight weeks.
Where your dog will shine
- The Little River waterfront
- Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens
- Walks along the Intracoastal Waterway
- Neighborhood streets and cul-de-sacs
- Your own backyard
Joyell Leonard owns Off Leash K9 Training Myrtle Beach and lives in the Little River area. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's in education from UNC Greensboro, and taught public school before she turned to dogs full time. She has been training dogs since 2010, and has worked with Slider, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans bat dog, and with several community rescue organizations.
Her background as a teacher is the reason our lessons are as much about coaching you as training your dog. Read more about her and the team on our about page.
