Where he started

He was a one-year-old, 75 pound Aussiedoodle with a long list of problems: jumping on his family and on visitors, pulling on the leash, and not listening to any commands.

It had started to cost the family their social life. His owner wrote that "no one wanted to come over to our home because of how bad our dog was."

The training journey

The family signed up for private obedience lessons with Joyell, basic and then advanced. Their hope was modest. By the end, they wanted to see a slight difference.

In lessons, Joyell teaches the dog and the people together. That is why what happened after the first session matters: he came home and responded right away to the commands she had just taught him and worked with them on, come and sit.

What actually changed

  • After one lesson. He was responding to come and sit at home the same day.
  • After two weeks. He was listening and responding to all the commands asked of him.
  • The bad habits. His owner wrote that the bad behaviors were quickly stopping.
  • Communication. The family can now communicate with their dog in a way that works.

★★★★★

“We have a 1 year old, male, 75 lb aussiedoodle who was having numerous behavioral issues (jumping on us and visitors, pulling on leash, not listening to any commands). He would not listen to us and no one wanted to come over to our home because of how bad our dog was. […] After ONE lesson with Joyell our dog was already a completely different dog! He came home after his first training session with Joyell and was immediately responding to the commands (come and sit) that she had just taught him and worked with us on. […] We have now been in the program for 2 weeks and our home feels like a completely different place.”

What it changed for his family

Two weeks into the program, his owner wrote that their home "feels like a completely different place."

They were also clear about who was learning. They thanked Joyell for teaching their dog, and for teaching them.

Why this story matters to us

Not every dog needs to stay with a trainer. For many families around Myrtle Beach, lessons are the right fit, because the owner builds the skills along with the dog. A big, strong, friendly dog who has never been taught what to do can turn around quickly once someone shows him, and shows his people.

Before and after

A one-year-old, 75 pound Aussiedoodle jumped on visitors, pulled on the leash and ignored commands until friends stopped coming over. After his first private lesson with Joyell he was responding to come and sit, and two weeks in his family said home felt like a different place.

Private lessons are covered on our dog obedience training page. If you would rather have a trainer do the first stretch of the work, read about board and train, or learn who we are on our About page.
