Therapy Dog Preparation

Our Therapy Dog program was created to provide the necessary training to be a well-balanced and well-behaved therapy dog team. Upon completion of our program, you should be able to easily pass any evaluation and/or certification test with a therapy dog organization.
(Note: our program alone is very detailed and thorough, providing all of the training you will need. However, to qualify for liability insurance to cover your therapy dog visits, you will need to gain certification through a therapy dog organization. At that point you will fall under their insurance umbrella.)
What our program covers: (The one-on-one lessons are one hour each week for 9 weeks.)
Weeks 1-4: Basic Obedience (Come, Sit, Break, Off, Place, Heel, Down, Greetings)
Week 5: Food Refusal
Weeks 6-7: Supervised Visitations (Senior Living Facility, Children’s Home, etc.)
Week 8: AKC Canine Good Citizen prep and Insurance discussion
Week 9: AKC Canine Good Citizen test
**A FREE 30 minute evaluation will be done prior to starting the program to determine if your dog is a good fit for our therapy dog program and/or therapy dog work.
**The trainer has the right to stop the program at any point if the dog begins to show signs of stress, anxiety, reactivity, aggression, skittishness, hyperness, overly excitability, etc. that would prevent them from being fit for therapy dog work.
